Xuancheng Museum is newly built on the shore of Wanling Lake. The new museum, carrying a thousand years of culture, opened for trial operation on May 1st. At present, the building renovation and basic decoration have been basically completed, and work related to cultural relic exhibition is underway.
It is understood that the old museum was first built in 1988, with a total construction area of 2,400 square meters. It houses over 4,000 exquisite artifacts, including Six Dynasties celadon, bronze mirrors from various dynasties, relics from major historical periods, and cultural exhibits of the Mei clan of Xuancheng. Due to its small area, there is an urgent need to re-layout and re-display the collection.
The overall layout of the new museum is divided into five floors: the first floor serves as the reception hall, temporary exhibition halls, and cultural relic storage; the second and third floors are basic exhibition halls, which, following the thread of Xuancheng's historical development, rely on archaeological discoveries of sites and artifacts, combined with major events and important figures in Xuancheng's history, to comprehensively recreate Xuancheng's long history and regional cultural characteristics. Specifically, it includes six parts: Jiangnan Oorang, Vicissitudes of Time, Elegance of the Prefecture, Splendid Chapters of Wangzhou, Legacy of the Ancient Prefecture, and Red Memories; the fourth floor is divided into two thematic exhibition halls: one is Treasures of the Study, showcasing the city's style as the capital of the Four Treasures of the Study, and the other is My Land, My Sentiments, which organically integrates intangible cultural heritage with the residential houses of southern Anhui to create a space for experiencing Xuancheng's folk customs; the fifth floor houses the academic lecture hall and offices to meet the daily office and meeting needs of the museum.
