The First Customs House of Guangdong (Yuehai) Memorial Hall is the main building of the Huangpu Ancient Port Scenic Area. It is a group of antique-style buildings constructed according to historical records and is an education base for patriotism in Guangzhou. In 2006, to welcome the Swedish replica merchant ship "Göteborg" back to Guangzhou, the Guangzhou Municipal Government and the Haizhu District Government carried out comprehensive renovation and construction in the area of the ancient Huangpu Port, investing over 60 million yuan to build the Huangpu Ancient Port Scenic Area, which includes four major parts: the Ancient Port Park, the sculpture commemorating the "Göteborg"'s revisit to Guangzhou, the waterfront promenade, and the First Customs House of Guangdong (Yuehai) Memorial Hall.
Inside the memorial hall, a large-scale special exhibition titled "Flowing Splendor" is held, which showcases the dazzling brilliance of Guangzhou's Maritime Silk Road accumulated through history using pictures, physical objects, models, wax figures, electronic screen images, and DVD playback. The main buildings of the memorial hall include the two-story Huangpu Customs House with front and rear sections, the Yongjing Barracks, the Comprador House, and the "Legacy of the Ancient Port" memorial archway.
